Feralco Iberia reaches the EsAgua Silver category due to his progress  with the sustainable management of water

Feralco Iberia, manufacturer of water treatment and chemical processes, progress in his sustainable compromise and has obtained the Silver Category of EsAgua, a recognition by Cetaqua, Water Footprint Network and DNV GL to the companies participating on EsAgua network that they have calculated the use of the water in their operations.

Feralco Iberia’s main activity is the manufacturing of inorganic coagulants, mainly aluminum and iron salts, which are used in the potable and residual water treatment (both industrial and municipal), as well as in some important industrial sectors such as the papermill industry. In order to offer the customer reliable and factual information about the environmental impact of the products offered, Feralco has made a life cycle analysis of their main products.

Through the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Feralco knows in detail the use of the water required by their products and forms the basis for a strategy in order to take care of water resources

The Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) serves for calculate the environmental impact of a product, process or activity. In a LCA study are identified and quantified the use of materials, energy and water, among others. In order to know the impact of their processes about hydric resources , the LCA study of Feralco establishes the impact category “Water Scarcity Potential” (WSP), in which the remaining water that is available in a specific geographic area is quantified once the resource has been consumed, and establishes the potential for depriving the resource to other users (both humans and ecosystems). The water scarcity calculation has been made using the AWARE methodology, the water scarcity indicator recommended by the UNEP-SETAC.

Through the life cycle analysis, Feralco knows in detail the use of the water required by their products and forms the basis for a strategy in order to take care of water resources. The analysis has based on the rules for Environmental Product Declaration already established and agreed internationally, such as the ISO 14025 for environmental products declaration and the ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 for life cycles analysis and product category rules, PCR2011 Basic Inorganic Chemicals Nec (2.1 version) according to the ecolabelling certification type lll program, The International EPD System.

Being a company linked to the direct consumption of water, Feralco presents a long run when making decisions that benefit the care and consumption of this resource. As part of its commitment to the EsAgua network, Feralco continues to promote its commitment to the protection of water resources and the sustainable use of water.
